Thank you for visiting the official website of the Japanese Film Festival (JFF) 2023!
It's amazing to be back for another year and share some incredible Japanese films in Malaysia! Thanks to your support, we are celebrating our 19th anniversary this year. You are the reason why we can continue to bring you amazing films year after year.
In addition to that, this year commemorates the 50th anniversary of the ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, which has helped to establish close relations between Japan and the Southeast Asian region, including Malaysia.
There are exciting special programmes for this year's JFF, including a special screening and film talk session with director MIYAKE Sho. He is also the director of this year's opening film, Small, Slow but Steady. We are honoured to have a special guest from Japan again, as our last was back in 2018. As the “bridge” between Malaysia and Japan, we're also delighted to have director Lim Kah Wai, a Malaysian filmmaker who has been based in Japan, with us as part of this year's special programme.
We are truly humbled by the vast number of partners and sponsors, especially this year. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to Golden Screen Cinemas as the Venue Sponsor, who has been with us since day one, as well as our other sponsors: GSC Movies and Clover Films, Mitsubishi Cooperation, The Vida World, Hisamitsu, Kinokuniya Bookstore, Sushi King, Hoshino Coffee Japan, Imuraya and Japan Airlines. We also want to thank the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, the Consulate-General of Japan in Penang, and the Consular Office of Japan at Kota Kinabalu for their cooperation, and our partners - TV3, tonton, Goggler and Cinema Online - for their support.
With another diverse selection to welcome back returned and new cinemagoers, we hope our lineup this year, which ranges from animation to thriller and drama to food features, will give you a chance to take home something wonderful as you learn new things about Japanese culture and society through films.
We look forward to seeing you at the cinema!
