During Japan’s turbulent Sengoku era, a period of bloody civil war, Washizu serves as a loyal samurai to the lord of Spider’s Web Castle. One day he encounters a strange old woman who predicts Washizu will one day become the castle’s lord. It is a prediction that fuels his burning ambition. Cheered on by his scheming and power-hungry wife, Lady Asaji, Washizu fulfills the prophecy by murdering his master and taking control of the fortress. But his actions have a harrowing consequence. He is plagued by paranoia and consumed with suspicion. He turns on those around him, killing his closest ally. Washizu is tormented by treachery and slowly succumbs to madness, unaware the very person he accused of slaying his master now rides with an invading force towards the castle to battle for its authority.
