Welcome to the Official JFF2025 Website!

Greetings from The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur!

We are back with the much-anticipated annual Japanese Film Festival (JFF) 2025. Over the years, the festival has grown to be more than just a space to watch Japanese films but has become a space for cultural and knowledge exchange between Malaysia and Japan. This is especially crucial this year in the global context of things, as the world watches Malaysia chair the 2025 ASEAN Summit while Japan hosts Expo 2025, both events of international scale to showcase our interconnectivity not just with each other, but to the whole world. Films can show us these connections, not just between nations, but most importantly, between people. Once again, the month-long festival will be making its way to the Klang Valley, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.

This year’s line-up includes the 4K Restoration of one of the most influential Japanese films of all time, Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai. Besides that, we also have the latest films with a wide variety of genre from Japan. Another theme we have this year is food, a universal aspect of Asian culture and values, as food has the power to bring people together. Hence films like Sunset, Sunrise, Solitary Gourmet and Northern Food Story will surely leave you hungry!

JFF2025 wouldn’t be possible without our partners and sponsors whom we are truly grateful for your help in making this year’s festival a success. We wish to express our gratitude to our Official Cinema Partner GSC International Screens, along with our Official Media Partners, Cinema Online and Goggler, Technical Supporter, KL Post and Collaborative Festivals What About Kuching Festival and Hin Between Festival, all of whom has provided great support for this year’s festival, as well as our other sponsors: Mitsubishi Corporation, The Vida World, Kinokuniya Bookstore, KOKUYO, Canon Malaysia, Kao, Japan Airlines, Sushi King and HojichaYa. We also want to thank the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, the Consulate-General of Japan in Penang and the Consular Office of Japan at Kota Kinabalu for their cooperation.

To our regular patrons, welcome back and thank you for your continuous support. To newcomers, welcome to the world of Japanese cinema! We hope to be able to continue showcasing the very best of Japanese cinema to Malaysian audiences.

So, grab your popcorn and enjoy the movie!
